It doesn't happen without

Our Mums

...and aunts, sisters, grandmas and all the other women in our lives

Over the last few years SJFC has set out on a journey to increase our female participation rate. Here are some numbers to have a think about:

1 in 3 players at SJFC are female.
50% of SJFC committee are female.
Over 60% of our team managers are female
… but our coaches, that’s sitting at under 15%.

Not only that, but if we take away the coaches of U6 and U7 teams and our adult womens teams, we are left with only 6% of our coaches are female across the U8-U16 age group.

That's Not Good Enough

And it won’t change unless we actively do something about it. We know the passion, leadership, and care that women bring to our club—because we see it every day in our team managers, committee members, and cheering sidelines. Now it’s time to bring that same energy onto the pitch. Whether you’ve played the game or just watched it from the fence, your voice, presence, and perspective matters. Our kids—boys and girls—need to see that coaches come in all forms. We’re not asking for perfection. We’re asking you to take the first step. Join a session. Pick up a whistle. Stand beside your child. Be the coach they’ll never forget.

2025 Mum Knows Best Sessions

These these free sessions are for all the women at SJFC and any women who want to be part of SJFC or be part of their child’s sporting journey at any club in any sport.

All sessions are run by our Technical Director Nico Rouco and may include various people from the SJFC committee. The sessions have a general flow that we will follow but just like any coach, we take it as it comes and we adapt to the needs of our group. Our goal is to have you walking away more confidence in your ability to coach your kids, and to build your coaching network so you have people around you to lean on.

Coaching is not easy, whether you know the game or not, and yet at times it can feel like the easiest thing you’ve ever done.

All sessions are free and are held at Myimbarr Sports Fields
